Starting the final term

It has been a year and a half since my first day studying fashion. And it has been wonderful.
The final term begins tomorrow, and with it the culmination of everything I have learned. For the last few months I will be almost solely focusing on sewing my collection. I will be producing 5 looks—they have already been designed and drafted.

This is my first look, which I will cut tomorrow. I am excited to share the process, the fabrics, the techniques and aches and pains!

Telio Fashion Competition

I haven't updated in a while -

I have been catching up on everything, working hard, but not posting! One of the reasons I have been so busy is that I have the privileged to compete in a Canada wide fashion competition put on by Telio.

More information here: http://www.telio.com/competition2014.html

The assignment was to design a look for the high-end canadian market, working within the theme of Textures.

A Black work Shirt

My first project in couture is a basic button down shirt. The challenges are coming in with the fabric: a very fine silk voile .  l am accenting the pocket, (and I hope) the collar with true reversible blackwork. Since everything needs to be hand basted including the silk organza for Interfacing , this whole project is taking much more time than I thought it would. It is worth every stitch.

Getting Started

This is an experiment—An experiment in throwing myself into the world of Social Media. I have been told countless times in the last year how important an active online presence is. I have started blogs before, but never having a specific purpose or direction, they have fallen to the wayside.

I hope that this will be a focused blog, and a tool to focus me. My medium is fabric, clothes. I am learning to think through pen and paint, transferring my thoughts to 3-D clothing. Studying Fashion Design in Vancouver has been an adventure. I finished my first year a week ago, and have one more to go. Who knows where it will all end? The journey so far has been full of adventure. Here I will chronicle my journey going forward, confident that this will be an exciting path.

Today though, is about starting. And I haven't really been sewing or drawing since classes ended a week ago. I have made cupcakes for my dear husband's birthday! These are Coca Cola Cupcakes with Peanut Butter frosting from Sprinkle Bakes Blog. They will be enjoyed this evening around a camp fire with friends.

So taking the first step, I am doing a post. Completely off topic.
